MODIFIED SINE WAVE is a sales term used for a modified square wave type of AC power which is not quite the same as power company electricity. Modified wave inverters are lowest cost, slightly more efficient, and almost all appliances work fine with them, though some may hum louder. But a few sewing machine speed controls have difficulty on modified sine wave. It can also damage photocopy machines, laser printers, and some cordless tool rechargers. Recently we found the first TV that would not run on any modified wave inverter. Battery chargers in some modified waveform inverters may require the highest quality generator (about $3000 and up) to charge effectively, or addition of a 10% voltage boost transformer.

SEARCH MODE automatic idle means that after last AC lamp or appliance is shut off, DR automatically shuts down to use only 0.04 amp. TR series idles at 0.17 to 0.35 amps. When you turn on a light or appliance it starts up again. Start sensitivity is adjustable.

STANDBY BATTERY CHARGER with 30 amp generator transfer relay is included in all DR and TR models. When you start the generator, or plug into utility power, standby feature automatically charges the battery and switches generator or utility power directly through for your use while batteries charge. When the generator or grid power stops, it switches back to use inverter AC from battery power. The DR's optional temperature probe attaches to battery, to correct charging voltage for battery temperature.  TR inverter includes temperature probe. 

1500 WATT continuous power inverter runs TV, household lights, computers, stereo, vacuum cleaner and most small appliances all at the same time. Large loads like washing machine, microwave oven, and circular saw will run only one at a time, but with many small appliances running too.

2400 WATT continuous power rating. Like 1500, but runs 2 large appliances at same time. Will run 1/3 and 1/2 horsepower 120 volt AC Grundfos well pumps.

3600 WATT continuous power rating. Extra margin of power for large loads and shop tools. Runs well pump and most washing machines together.

SMALL 12 VOLT- MODIFIED WAVE INVERTERS

Low cost starter inverters. Backwoods Solar takes these as trade-in later for larger inverter if needed. All these feature manual on/Off switch, power LED, and low battery alarm at 10.7 volts.
