Powercenters


Backwoods Solar offers TWO Powercenters as kits with all the hardware, pre-fabricated wires ready to bolt in, and instructions to assemble your powercenter. These Powercenters interface all the battery and DC connections to inverters, charge control, solar, hydro or wind power. They include the Tri-Metric battery meter and DC load breakers. There is additional space to install lightning arrestors and other equipment you may want to add later. Select one from below; then add your choice for charge control, inverter, and battery cables to create a complete power system.

Both Powercenters include:

ADD A CHARGE CONTROL suitable to your charge source and battery voltage. Some will mount directly to matched holes in the powercenters.  For wind or hydropower, a diversion type control can be used with an external heat load.

ADD AN INVERTER 

ADD MAIN BATTERY CABLES with lug ends, to match the size of inverter.

To receive the correct size hardware and breakers to match your equipment, tell us which control and which inverter you will use, even if not purchasing them at this time.


XANTREX POWERCENTER KIT

This powercenter kit is built around the Xantrex DC Breaker Box.

Includes:
DC Breaker box
Inverter breaker; 175 or 250 Amp
Charge control breaker
Two 20 amp DC load breaker
Remote mount TriMetric meter
Hardware for cable entrances
Bushings to attach charge control

Inverter breaker is located front center of box. Charge control and load circuit breakers mount on the sides of the box. One or two Xantrex  C-Series charge controls (not included) mount directly to the top of the box where one is pictured. TriMetric meter may be remote mounted anywhere in the home.

Works with Outback and Xantrex inverters. A Xantrex SW+ series inverter mounts to the left side using optional conduit box, or without as shown above. Cables to inverter are exposed, but connections are still covered. Xantrex DR series inverters mount likewise with or without conduit box, but on the right side of the powercenter. The breaker box is factory drilled to mount all parts. Mounting hardware and cable entry clamps are supplied. Assembly involves mounting and wiring all components into the breaker box. Comes with full instructions and drawings.

OUTBACK FLEXWARE 500 POWERCENTER KIT

MUCH MORE SPACE and less confining to wire then the Xantrex box. All breakers are in a single row on the front. The kit handles one or two inverters.

BONDS TO INVERTER. Accepts one or two Outback or Xantrex inverters. DC conduit boxes required to conceal cabling. Outback conduit boxes align perfectly with knockouts. Knockouts on the DC breaker box and possibly the conduit box for Xantrex inverters required.

MORE SOLAR CONTROL Two 30 amp solar array breakers switch two arrays separately for comparison. A 60 amp breaker connects the charge control to the battery. Please note that Your charge controller/s is NOT included with this powercenter kit..

MORE BREAKERS Two 15 amp DC load breakers are included. Space remains to add 5 more breakers for wind hydro, loads or additional solar charge controls.

 OUTBACK FLEXWARE 500 CUSTOM POWER SYSTEMS


The OUTBACK FLEXWARE 500 POWER SYSTEM, shown below, is factory assembled, ready to use. Backwoods Solar has created a custom version which includes many options that we believe are essential. These features are typically not included in the base model that Outback offers. Well sized for most solar electric homes.  A good value when compared to separate components plus their installation labor. Includes one or two inverters, a 60 amp charge control, plus AC and DC power centers. Connects to batteries, solar array, back-up generator and home circuits. 

The components listed below are included in the Outback Flexware 500 power system.

MX60 SOLAR CHARGE CONTROL handles 60 amps maximum output to the battery at 12, 24, or 48 volts with current boost by maximum power point tracking. The MX60 can convert any higher voltage solar arrays (up to 150 volt open circuit or six 12 volt modules in series) to charge any 12, 24, or 48 volt battery bank- making possible longer distances from solar array to battery room using smaller wire sizes.

OUTBACK INVERTERS will offer from 2,000 to 3,600 watts of true sine wave AC power output. Two inverters can be selected for 4,000 to 7,200 watts AC output. If starting with a single inverter, you may add a second inverter with recommended X240 transformer later. These inverters are available either fan-cooled for higher power or totally sealed to eliminate dirt and salt air corrosion. Battery charger, inverter/generator transfer switching, and automatic generator start is included.

The MATE  and HUB adapter is an included Outback system control that programs and meters the charge control and all inverters.

The TriMetric battery meter (not pictured) is also included. Both the Mate and TriMetric can be installed remotely from the power system for easy access.

The Flexware 500 DC breaker box accepts PV, battery, and DC load inputs. 
The PS2 AC power center accepts generator input and delivers inverter output through several circuit breakers and an on-board AC outlet.
Battery Cables are 10 feet in length and sized according to your inverter.
X240 Transformer is included on two inverter systems to give full power on both 120 and 240 volt applications. Recommended with second inverter if upgrading from single inverter power system.

OUTBACK PS1 GRID TIE POWER SYSTEM

Backwoods has taken the leap! Given the nationwide tax incentives and the fact that so many grid-connected folks call us on a daily basis looking for a battery based backup system with the ability to sell excess energy to the utility, we have decided to introduce the Outback PS1 Power System. 

With the PS1, Outback Solar has designed a system with an emphasis on performance, ease of installation, and low maintenance which virtually eliminates all concerns about batteries in grid-tie systems. The PS1 operates similarly to typical battery-less grid-tie solar systems but with the added benefit of being able to provide uninterrupted backup power during utility outages. With over 7 million households losing power for more than an hour each year, incorporating a back-up power system is common sense.

All fears about the complexity of grid-tie solar with battery back-up are eliminated thanks to the PS1 "install ready" design. The PS1 system is a factory wired, pre-programmed solution with a complete ETL listing. Even the battery interconnecting cables and conduit are included to eliminate all guess work and difficult to find parts. The PS1 includes a type 3R rainproof enclosure which provided flexibility in where you choose to install the system, allowing for installation in limited space or outdoors.

Utilizing batteries as a back-up power source is much more reliable and economical compared to fuel-powered generators. Generators are mechanical devices which require regular maintenance and are subject to failure when you need them most, during an outage. Batteries have no moving parts and the sealed AGM type batteries used in the PS1 system require no watering or other periodic maintenance. Once installed, the PS1 system operates silently and works automatically; there are no switches to throw; buttons to push; or cords to connect.
