PHOTO-VOLTAIC or solar cells convert sunlight directly
to electricity within wafer thin cells. Light "particles" called
photons actually bounce electrons across a barrier, creating an electrical
current. About 36 cells are built into a 4 to 12 square foot solar module. Cells
are sealed within a tough resin between a tempered glass front and plastic or
foil backing, then framed in aluminum rail. There are many sizes and brands of
modules, at similar prices, specifications, and claims. New brands come each
year, many as good as, but none better than, the proven reliable brands listed in
the next pages. Considering cost and length of module lifetime and warranty, we
stock the longest tested and most respected brands.
DIRECT SUNSHINE with no shadows is absolutely necessary
for full power. Partial power is produced on overcast days, but any shadows
falling directly on a solar module will reduce power, regardless of what some
advertisements claim.
DURABILITY: First used 40 years ago for space satellites,
modules of that vintage still operate unless the glass has been broken or water
has entered the seals. Life expectancy of solar modules is over 30 years. Most
photovoltaic modules come with a 20 to 25 year warranty on power output and may
last a lifetime.
THE AMOUNT OF POWER a solar array produces depends on the
number of modules you use and the number of daily sunshine hours in your
climate. Overcast days with only half normal brightness give half of normal
power. Some climates allow much more power in summer than winter. Solar modules
can easily be added to your array to increase power as your needs grow. Modules
are rated by volts, watts, and amps. The AMP rating is the best indicator of
the charging you get and is what you will see on your meter during ideal sun
conditions.

SOLAR WORLD residential power modules use quality single crystal cells. Tempered
glass front and aluminum mounting frame.
They have MC cable leads already attached to their junction box.
You will need our 30' MC cable with a male and female end. You cut this cable in half in
order to plug it into the pre-installed MC cables and run from there to a
combiner box. You may order this cable below. Tested at 50 PSI wind
load; 1" hailstones impact at 52mph.
These modules are
no longer being manufactured and will be discontinued
this year, Backwoods has secured a supply of the last of

SOLARWORLD 240W Sunmodule
MADE IN THE
USA
These
SolarWorld PV modules are designed for use in a wide
variety of applications from off-grid residential
systems using a MPPT charge controller to high-voltage
grid-tie commercial systems. The modules use 60,
six-inch semi-square single-crystalline cells in series
behind tempered glass within a silver aluminum frame. They have a sealed junction box
with bypass diodes and 37.4 inch long output cables with
Multi-Contact locking connectors (MC4). The Sunmodule is
certified to the stringent safety and design
requirements of UL1703 and IEC 61215. All US Sunmodules
are currently produced in the ISO 9001:2000 certified
Camarillo, California facility. SolarWorld also offers
end-of-life module recycling for all Sunmodules.
SolarWorld bonds the
tempered glass laminate deep into the aluminum frame
with a continuous bead of silicone adhesive. This method
guarantees exceptional rigidity for the entire module
and prevents the frame from loosening or pulling away
from the glass. UL Load rating is 75 pounds per square
foot which shows that the module can withstand heavy
accumulations of snow and ice.
Sunmodules have a +/-3% power tolerance and a 10-year
90% power warranty, 25-year 80% power warranty. Modules
are 65.94” x 39.41” x 1.34” and weigh 48.5 pounds.

NEW from KYOCERA
Kyocera's advanced cell-processing
technology and automated production facilities produce highly efficient
multi-crystal photovoltaic modules. To protect the
cells from the most severe environmental conditions, they are encapsulated
between a tempered glass cover and an EVA pottant with a PVF back sheet. The
entire laminate is installed in an anodized aluminum frame for structural
strength and ease of installation.
d.Blue Module
Kyocera has perfected its new surface treatment technology and is
introducing it on a new line of modules named d.Blue, for its dark blue
color.
The newly developed treatment method processes multi-crystalline silicon
cells in order to produce a surface texture that minimizes surface
reflectance and maximizes output. The result is a maximum conversion
efficiency of 15 %, one of the highest conversion efficiencies in the
polycrystalline module industry.
d.Blue is ideal for installation on all types of buildings, from residential
to large scale commercial systems. The stylish dark blue cells, combined
with aluminum module frames, allow the modules to blend in with the buildings
architecture while producing energy at exceptional efficiencies.
The d.Blue modules are available in 135, 65 and 50
watt panels. The KC50, KC65, KC85
and 135SX feature new
conventional junction boxes,
and a heavy-duty box-style anodized aluminum
frame; the KD135GX has MC4 cabling exiting a sealed junction area; and both

In light of Unisolar's decision
to discontinue manufacturing their smaller modules, we have
decided to offer this new line of modules which are manufactured
in China specifically for AEE Solar. AEE Solar has
operated out of its California headquarters for over 20 years
and will honor any warranty claims arising against these
modules.
These Small Glass and Aluminum Framed
modules are glass laminated in aluminum frames. The 20 watt module has a small junction box on the
back. The 5 and 10 watt modules do not have a junction
box. The 5 watt module has a 12" cord and the 10 watt
module has an 8' cord attached to the back of the
module. Sturdy frames and tempered glass. These modules have a ten year warranty.
